This Non-Alcoholic Espresso Martini is a buzz-free version of a classic cocktail. It’s made with zero-proof coffee liqueur, freshly brewed espresso, and homemade brown sugar syrup. It’s wonderfully smooth and has a delicious balance of flavors!
An espresso martini is the quintessential brunch cocktail! With its burst of caffeine and beautifully frothy top layer, it’s no wonder it’s a favorite.
Whether you’re looking for a sophisticated pick-me-up or celebrating New Year’s or Dry January, this Non-Alcoholic Espresso Martini is just the thing to sip on. The sweetness of the brown sugar syrup balances out the bitter espresso. Plus, we added an extra layer of flavor by adding a drizzle of vanilla bean paste.
There’s plenty of syrup to make several cocktails, so it works out if you’re entertaining a large crowd. You can even use the leftovers in your morning latte! For more zero-proof coffee cocktails, try our version of a Calypso Coffee.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Ingredient Notes
Ingredient quantities are listed in the recipe card at the bottom of the post. Here you’ll find notes on why we chose certain ingredients as well as any substitutions.
- Espresso: Our favorite is the Lavazza Crema e Aroma.
- Lyre’s Coffee Originale: This is our go-to non-alcoholic coffee liqueur. It has a strong, slightly bitter coffee flavor. It’s works great on its own in this drink without the need for a vodka alternative.
- Dark Brown Sugar: We prefer its richer molasses flavor.
- Vanilla Bean Paste: We suggest sticking with the paste since it has a more robust flavor and a hint of sweetness that the extract doesn’t have.

STEP 2: Store. Transfer the syrup to an airtight container and cool completely before sealing and storing in the fridge.

Expert Tips
- Shake vigorously. This is a given with shaken cocktails, but is especially important for foamy ones. If you want a nice layer of froth, be sure to give it a really good shake.
- Make the syrup ahead of time. It doesn’t take long to make, but it’s best to use syrup that’s already been chilled.
FAQ
No, it wouldn’t be an espresso martini without the espresso! Plus, you won’t quite get the same intensity and richness with drip coffee and cold brew. The crema on top of the espresso also helps to build that foamy top layer.
We’ve noticed that some groceries stores are starting to carry it, including well-stocked liquor stores. If you have no luck there, you can order directly from the Lyre’s website or Boisson.
It should last about 2-3 weeks in the fridge.
