This non-alcoholic La Llorona Cocktail gets its name from a popular ghostly figure in Latin American folklore. Its theme is fitting for Halloween, but its sweet and sour flavors can be enjoyed any time of the year.

While we named this drink the La Llorona cocktail, we also took inspiration from Queen Yharnam of the video game, Bloodborne. If you know anything about their tragic backstories, you’ll understand the symbolism behind the baby’s breath. While both figures can evoke solemn and scary feelings, they also have a certain elegance to them and we wanted to reflect that in the look and taste of the drink.
The base of the cocktail is a simple blend of zero-proof gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. All of which is topped with a layer of Ghia aperitif which has a fruity, bitter flavor. With each sip you get a hit of that bitter Ghia followed by the sweet and sour icy base.
Whether you’re hosting a Halloween party or enjoying quiet time at home, this non-alcoholic cocktail is a treat to sip on. Especially if it’s on a chilly, foggy fall evening.

- Non-Alcoholic Gin: We used Free Spirits gin for this drink, but we also like Monday and Lyres’ Dry London Spirit.

- Ghia Aperitif: This bitter, zero-proof cocktail has a blend of fruity flavors with a hint of citrus.

📖 Recipe

La Llorona Cocktail (Non-Alcoholic)
Equipment
- Cocktail Shaker with strainer
- Rocks Glass
- Jigger
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ oz (50 ml) non-alcoholic gin we used Free Spirits
- 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lemon juice
- 1 oz (30 ml) simple syrup
- 1 ½ oz (45 ml) Ghia Aperitif
- Baby's breath for garnish
Instructions
- Add the non-alcoholic gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake for 15 seconds until chilled.
- Add ice cubes to a rocks glass and strain the cocktail over top.
- Place a spoon right over the top of the cocktail, upside down, and slowly pour the Ghia over the back of the spoon. It should create a layer on top (see notes). Garnish with baby's breath and enjoy!
Notes
- We recommend using a small carafe with a spout to pour the Ghia. This helps to create a slow stream of liquid that won’t automatically run down the side of your pouring vessel.
