    Iced Spanish Latte.

    What is a Spanish Latte?

A Spanish latte is a sweet and simple coffee drink made with sweetened condensed milk, espresso, and regular milk. It can be hot or iced depending on your preference, and it has a smooth, creamy texture.

There’s a misconception that this drink is called café con leche (coffee with milk) in Spain. While you can technically sweeten your café con leche with condensed milk, it’s not entirely accurate to equate it to a Spanish latte.

The closest drink in mainland Spain is the café bombón which is made with just condensed milk and espresso (no extra milk mixed in). There is, however, a drink in the Canary Islands (an autonomous region of Spain) called leche y leche which is typically hot and more of what we know as a Spanish latte.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • Quick & Easy: It only takes a few minutes to make this iced Spanish latte so it’s perfect for when you need a quick caffeine boost.
    • 3 Ingredients: You likely already have all of the ingredients in your kitchen!

    Ingredient Notes

The full list of ingredients and their quantities is in the recipe card below. Here you’ll find notes on specific ingredients as well as any substitutions.

    • Espresso: Our favorite espresso to use is Lavazza Crema e Aroma.
    • Sweetened Condensed Milk: This lightly thickens the drink and gives it that rich, creamy feel.
    • Whole Milk: 2% is fine too.

    Expert Tips

    • Add the condensed milk to the glass before pulling an espresso shot. That way the hot espresso falls right on top of the condensed milk, making it ready for easy mixing.
    • Add a dash of cinnamon on top. It adds a bit of warmth and oomph to your latte.

    FAQ

Can I use non-dairy milk in my Spanish latte?

Yes, something creamy like oat milk or a barista blend almond milk would work best.

What’s the difference between a Spanish latte and a Vietnamese Latte?

While a Vietnamese latte has virtually the same ingredients as a Spanish latte, the coffee and the brewing process is the key difference. In Vietnamese lattes, the coffee is placed in a phin filter and left to slowly drip into a mug of sweetened condensed milk (no extra milk involved). For Spanish lattes, all you need to do is combine a couple shots of espresso with the condensed milk then mix it with regular milk.

Love this. Spanish lattes are my go-to and this recipe is so easy and so good. I used creamy oat milk instead of whole milk and it still turned out perfectly! Also what a great way to use up some leftover condensed milk when you don’t finish a can of it.
